| Quattro Plant valuation calls for expert knowledge |
SHM’s Asset-Based Lending team has just completed the second of two multi-million pound valuations for one of the UK’s largest road, rail and civil plant hire companies.
With a head office base in Stratford, The Quattro Group is one of the UK’s fastest-growing multi-disciplined plant hire businesses. It provides a wide range of equipment and services nationwide, either on a long or short-term basis.
The company is involved in a wide range of projects including the Network Rail infrastructure, private rail networks and large civil engineering projects. Quattro came to SHM for a valuation of its assets in order to secure asset based finance.
A three-man surveying team from SHM visited four Quattro sites in Stratford, Manchester, Doncaster and Willenhall in the Midlands in order to complete detailed plant inspections ahead of the valuation.
Because of the nature of the business, at any one time, Quattro has plant out at work on sites across the UK so SHM looked at a cross-section of the plant, including excavators, trailers, access platforms, dumpers and bulldozers.
It is difficult to get comparable figures on the more specialised road rail plant and equipment as it is a relatively small sector and, while there are lots of smaller regional operators, there are very few major players on a national scale. Second hand assets are rarely available on a piecemeal basis.
Because of that it is a tricky one to value as there is very little evidence-base to look at. We do rely heavily on expert opinion. The market has recently experienced the sale of Gamble Group as a going concern, which is the trend with the larger businesses in the sector. By contrast, civil plant and vehicles are different and there is comparable sales evidence available daily so this equipment is a lot more straightforward to value. |
